A beginner guide to USDT network selection, withdrawal mistakes, test transfers, memos, and address safety.

USDT Network Guide: TRC20, ERC20, and What to Check Before Withdrawal

USDT can exist on multiple blockchain networks. This is useful, but it also creates one of the most common beginner mistakes: choosing a network that the receiving wallet or exchange does not support.

This guide explains how to think about network selection before withdrawing USDT.

Four judgements before picking a USDT network

USDT is not one single rail

When someone says “send USDT,” that is incomplete. You need to know which network is being used. Examples can include Ethereum-based USDT, Tron-based USDT, and other supported networks depending on the platform.

Different networks can have different fees, confirmation times, address formats, and support rules.

The sender and receiver must match

Before withdrawing, check the network on both sides:

  • The sending exchange withdrawal page.
  • The receiving wallet or exchange deposit page.
  • The exact asset name.
  • The exact network name.
  • Whether memo, tag, or additional information is required.

Do not guess from the address alone. Some address formats can look familiar while still being unsupported by the receiving platform.

Cheap is not always correct

A network with a lower fee is not useful if your destination does not support it. If funds arrive on the wrong network, recovery may be impossible, slow, or expensive.

Choose the network that both sides explicitly support.

Use a test transfer

For a new destination address, send a small test amount first. Wait for it to arrive and confirm that the account balance is usable. Then send the remaining amount if everything matches.

A test transfer costs extra fees, but it can prevent a much larger loss.

Address safety

Clipboard malware can replace copied addresses. Always compare the first and last characters, and use saved addresses only if you trust the device and account security. If withdrawal allowlists are available, they can reduce risk for repeat transfers.

Where exchange guides fit

If you are using OKX, check the official deposit and withdrawal page for the current network options and fees. If you registered through a referral link, that does not change the network safety checks.

Bottom line

For USDT withdrawals, the key rule is simple: asset, network, address, and memo must all match. If you are unsure, stop and ask official support through the exchange interface rather than private messages.
